Case Study:

Epson America

Walt & Company has been providing a wide range of public relations services to Epson America since 1994. Headquartered in Long Beach, Calif., Epson today is at the forefront of the digital imaging revolution. When Walt & Company was first retained, our strategy centered on positioning Epson’s superior image quality in a wide range of consumer, corporate, SMB, and professional media. More recently, one of Walt & Company’s primary strategies has been to help increase Epson Web site traffic by developing targeted social media programs via blog outreach, and by leveraging key social media tools, e.g., Twitter and Flickr. In addition, a major component of the overall program has been an aggressive and widespread product reviews effort targeting key influencers and communities at the mainstream and grassroots levels to drive awareness of technology innovation, product applications, and environmental benefits. Products supported include consumer and small business printers and all-in-ones, photo and small business scanners, professional graphic printers, business projectors, home theater projectors, photo viewers, and a wide range of printer inks and supplies. Walt & Company also helped orchestrate Epson’s launch of the industry’s first digital camera and the world’s first digital rangefinder.

Results: Over the past 14 years, monitoring of business/financial, trade and consumer media by independent media tracking companies and social media monitoring services has consistently concluded that Epson generates more and higher quality media coverage and social network discussions than its chief competitors, despite the fact that Epson PR is out-resourced by its major competitors. As digital imaging has become mainstream, our media universe stretches from The Wall Street Journal to the “TODAY” Show to every major daily newspaper in the country, thousands of blogs, and all key trade and channel media.
